Organization Profile, Capacity & Achievements
Women & Children Development International (WCI) is a registered, solutions-driven nonprofit organization in Nigeria, dedicated to addressing the health and socio-economic challenges faced by women, girls, and children in underserved and disadvantaged populations across the states. The organization mobilizes resources through donor funding, private philanthropic contributions, and partnerships with government institutions, national and international stakeholders, community and women leaders, as well as CSOs, CBOs, FBOs, and affected communities to design and implement systematic solutions that tackle poverty, hunger, poor health outcomes, low literacy, disease outbreaks, gender inequality, insurgencies, communal conflict, and climate change crises.
WCI commenced operations in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, led large-scale mobilization of women and girls for vaccine uptake in Kano State, including routine immunization for children, ANC & PNC. The organization successfully dispelled rumors fueling vaccine hesitancy and worked closely with the Ministry of Health to strengthen herd immunity among women and girls. WCI has its headquarters in Kano State and field offices in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Borno, Bauchi, and Jigawa States.
In 2023, WCI partnered with SUBEB, Jigawa State, to train 373 primary school teachers on Digital Literacy for Rural Teachers, promoting effective teaching and learning for 8,382 rural schoolchildren. In 2024, with a six-month grant from the Rotary Club, WCI implemented a School-WASH project in Dass LGA, Bauchi State, to improve children’s hygiene and sanitation and curb the spread of Lassa Fever. Between December 2024 and March 2025, and with support from the Lions Club Nigeria, WCI implemented a Digital Empowerment for Rural School Students project, equipping 199 girls and 122 boys with digital literacy skills.
In February 2025, WCI received a four-month grant from the British Council to economically empower 2,317 vulnerable women and girls, including persons living with HIV/AIDS, those with disabilities, and widows in Sabongari, Nassarawa, Rano, Garu Mallam, and Wudil LGAs of Kano State. The project also integrated community-based Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and sensitization campaigns, reduced stigma, and engaged policymakers to advocate for inclusive policies that promote the economic empowerment and social protection of this vulnerable population. WCI is currently partnering with Malaria Consortium & Nigerian Red Cross Society to mobilize women and children for the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Child Immunization campaign in Jigawa & Kebbi States. In addition, WCI collaborates with Close the Gap International (Belgium) to provide sustainable digital training and employment opportunities for girls and youth in Kano State.

WCI works to bring together researchers, CSOs, CBOs, FBOs, community members, and government bodies to design, rigorously evaluate, and refine solutions that are not only sustainable but impactful. The organization ensures that the evidence generated through these efforts is used to improve the lives of vulnerable women, girls, and children, particularly in areas most affected by health crises, socio-economic instability, gender inequality, hunger, and poverty, by addressing the root causes.

- Women & Children’s Health and Nutrition Wellbeing:
* WCI focuses on addressing healthcare challenges unique to women and children, providing solutions for maternal and child health, malnutrition, routine immunization, disease prevention, and access to essential healthcare services in underserved communities & crisis-affected areas.
- Food Security, Climate Smart Agriculture & Socio-economic Empowerment:
* The organization works to improve the socio-economic conditions of women and children by creating opportunities for rural agricultural development, vocational training, livelihood strengthening, promote climate resilience building and social support in marginalized & crisis communities.
- Crisis Response and Recovery:
*WCI designs interventions that respond to crises such as natural disasters, insurgencies, climate change, and outbreaks of disease, ensuring that the affected populations receive critical support and long-term recovery solutions.
- Strengthening and Promoting Universal Basic Education for All Children:
*Women & Children International (WCI) is committed to promoting inclusive education for underserved children, particularly those in rural communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. We strive to ensure that every child, regardless of their socio-economic background, race, or the challenges they face, have access to quality education in a supportive and conducive environment.
- Peace Building and Conflict Mitigation:

- Promoting Women and Children’s Access to Clean Drinking Water, Hygiene Education, and Sanitation:
*Access to clean water, proper hygiene, and sanitation is a fundamental human right and a major focus of WCI’s interventions. WCI is committed to improving the health and well-being of women and children by addressing water and sanitation challenges in underserved communities & IDP camps.

Professor Hadiza Galadanci
Chairperson
Professor Hadiza Galadanci FRCOG FWACS is a renowned Nigerian obstetrician, medical academic, and pioneering advocate for maternal health. As the first female obstetrician and professor trained in Kano State, she holds a distinguished position as a Professor of Gynecology at Bayero University, Kano, where she continues to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals. Professor Galadanci is widely respected for her groundbreaking contributions to improving obstetric outcomes, particularly in the areas of maternal health and healthcare access. She is a passionate advocate for maternal health in Nigeria and globally, working tirelessly to raise awareness and drive policy changes that positively impact women’s healthcare.
As the pioneer director of the Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy, a World Bank-supported initiative, Professor Galadanci has been at the forefront of advancing healthcare research and shaping policies that address the unique challenges faced by African nations in the realm of population health. Her expertise has been critical in efforts to reduce maternal mortality and improve overall maternal and child health outcomes. With over 100 peer-reviewed articles published in prestigious medical journals, Professor Galadanci has cemented her position as a leader in her field. She has also trained and mentored over 2,000 students, influencing the next generation of obstetricians and healthcare professionals. Her research contributions, including her leadership in the study of postpartum hemorrhage and her involvement in the E-MOTIVE study, have played a pivotal role in reducing maternal mortality.

Deputy Chairperson
Dr. Bashir Usman, MBBS, FMCPH
Dr. Bashir Usman, MBBS, FMCPH, is a highly respected public health expert with a wealth of experience in managing and addressing major health challenges. He is a former Consultant with the KNCV International-USAID Project, and current Director General for the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA) Kano where is championing public-private partnerships aimed at reducing the transmission of HIV/AIDS in the state, Dr. Bashir is also a Consultant in Public Health at Bayero University Teaching Hospital, a position he has held since 2005. His extensive career in the healthcare sector has been marked by his dedication to improving public health policies, disease prevention, and healthcare delivery systems, particularly in the area of infectious disease control.
His leadership and expertise have been instrumental in shaping healthcare strategies at the local and national levels. As the Deputy Chairperson of the WCI Board, Dr. Bashir Usman brings invaluable insight into public health issues, with a strong focus on creating sustainable health solutions and fostering partnerships for better healthcare delivery. His experience and commitment continue to drive meaningful change in the health sector, particularly in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

Hajia Amina Mustapha, MBA, CNA is a seasoned Internal Auditor and Finance Specialist with 17 years of experience managing the financial operations of complex multi-stakeholder projects. Her expertise spans budgeting, accounting, procurement, grant management, internal audit, and risk management. With a solid background in the non-governmental and not-for-profit sectors, Amina has been pivotal in managing multi-donor funds in the Nigeria Red Cross Society, ensuring transparency, accountability, and optimal use of resources. Her professional journey has been marked by continuous learning and development, with training experiences in Nigeria, Geneva, Qatar, and Kenya. These global exposures have further enhanced her ability to navigate diverse financial landscapes and bring innovative solutions to the organization.
As a board member of WCI, Amina plays an integral role in advancing the organization’s mission, particularly in the areas of financial stewardship and resource allocation.
Mr. Tobechukwu Prosper

Mr. Tobechukwu Prosper, B.sc, PMP. is a distinguished climate justice, food security, and environmental advocate with a strong passion for creating sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Climate Change Initiative, Mr. Prosper leads a national organization committed to advancing environmental sustainability and alleviating poverty. Under his leadership, the organization collaborates with national and international institutions to build a climate-resilient society, ensuring that women, youth, and children have the opportunity to thrive in an environmentally sustainable future.

Ms. Eyitope Dada is an expert in care and wellbeing, with extensive experience in consultancy. She has worked with numerous organizations and individuals, making a significant impact on the well-being of populations she serves. Known for her dedication and expertise, Eyitope has successfully contributed to improving healthcare outcomes through her strategic insights and hands-on involvement. Currently, she is working with Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, England, where she continues to drive initiatives that promote holistic care and the overall health and welfare of clients. Her work at Frimley Park Hospital is a testament to her commitment to quality healthcare and patient-centered services.

Dr. Kamal Ahmed, Executive Director

Dr. Kamal Ahmed, MPH, PhD, MPA is a highly accomplished public health expert and researcher with extensive experience in international development, humanitarian programs, and research coordination. With a strong academic background and professional expertise, Kamal has made significant contributions to health and development initiatives across several countries. He previously served as the Project Director for Save the Children International, where he led critical programs focused on child health, education, and protection. He has also held the role of National Health & Nutrition Manager at the CCDRN, where he spearheaded research efforts on key public health issues affecting vulnerable populations.
A former Research Consultant with the KNCV International-USAID Project, Dr. Kamal has worked on vital public health projects focused on combating infectious diseases and improving health systems. He further contributed to humanitarian work as the Head of the Lake Chad Program at Plan International Yobe, where he played a key role in addressing the challenges faced by communities around the Lake Chad Basin, a region marked by conflict and humanitarian needs. He also served as the UNDP Research Coordinator for the Lake Chad Project, which spanned Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon. In this role, he managed research and coordination efforts across multiple countries, providing insights into the complex environmental, health, and socio-economic challenges affecting the region.
Management Structure
The Executive Director, assisted by a senior management team, leads and manages WCI Nigeria. The management is responsible for matters concerning the programme, administration, finance and human resources. It deals with all stakeholders on all matters concerning the organization and report to the Board.

Mr. AbdulRasak Abdullahi, Bsc, Msc: Director of Programs, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Mr. AbdulRasak Abdullahi is an experienced Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) professional with a robust background in managing and overseeing program quality across multiple sectors.
